Friday Project: Timeout Glitter Bottle

Timeout Glitter Bottle

Now that we are starting to get a little more settled at the new house and are back to school, I am working on accomplishing some projects! I saw this great idea for a glitter time out bottle on Pinterest a few weeks ago and I finally did it! I think this will be great for Jorryn since he tends to get overly worked up when he’s mad and needs a minute to calm down and assess the situation. I even found myself totally mesmerized by the bottle today so I’m sure it will do the trick for him when the time comes! ๐Ÿ™‚

Ingredients for Timeout Glitter Bottle

  • Empty plastic bottle {I used a Smart Water bottle}
  • Ultra fine glitter
  • Glitter glue
  • Hot water
  • Super glue
  • Clear glue {I used clear tacky glue}

How to Make the Timeout Glitter Bottle

It seemed simple enough according to the instructions online! I soaked the label off the water bottle and got it nice and clean. Then I used really hot water and filled the bottle about 3/4 full. I added the whole bottle of glitter glue. I was a little taken aback when squeezing it in.. it wasn’t how I anticipated it.. but don’t panic if this happens to you! I just shook the bottle for a few minutes and it finally separated and looked normal and not globby. {I’m POSITIVE that’s a real word! ;)}

I added the ultra fine glitter next. Unfortunately, all the glitter was settling really fast. The goal was for the settling to take about five minutes and it was only taking about a minute. So I ended up grabbing a tube of clear tacky glue {which I had been planning to use on another project.. oh well} and I ended up adding that whole thing as well! I am not sure if the “settling factor” depends on what brand you use, etc? So just be warned — you may need to play around with it and add more glue! This entire process was kind of messy for me…maybe I shouldn’t be allowed to use glue! ๐Ÿ™‚

After I got the mixture just right, I sealed the lid shut with some super glue to make sure no one spilled the glitter everywhere for me! Both boys LOVED the bottle… I’m a little concerned with how much Jorryn liked it. As in we might have time outs on purpose now! Zane was pretty enthralled with it as well! It was even worth giving up coloring to play with! {Ignore the background boxes.. the kitchen still isn’t finished! :)}

I found the bottle to be extremely calming while typing this post.. as I discovered a huge, gross bug in the kitchen when I went for a glass of water. I retreated with the glitter bottle to the office to type this up.. and I think I’m just going to stay put! ๐Ÿ™‚
